Department of Library and Information Science offers two courses.

1. Master of Library and Information Science : Choice Based Credit System

   Duration : Two years (Four Semester)
   Intake Capacity : 30
   Eligibility : Any candidate from any faculty who have passed a degree examination of the University of Mumbai or from any recognized University.

2. Ph.D. in Library and Information Science
   Duration :  Minimum 3 years
   Intake Capacity :  Depends upon availability of Research Guides and vacant seats
   Eligibility :  Scored +55% in Master of Library and Information Science, with 3 years of professional experience and PET

BEST PRACTICES

1. Local Library visits are organized to different libraries like,IIT, Bombay, TIFR, Colaba, TISS, Deonar, American Library, IGIDR Library, WeSchool Library, Asiatic Library etc.
2. Internship within KRC is planned for Sem I students, to give them exposure to actual functioning of a library
3. In Sem IV, Internship with different type of Libraries is planned for 1 month. In the Internship Centre list, the prominent one’s are Tata Consultancy Services,TISS, TIFR, IIT(Bombay), SNDT Women’s University, SHPT School of LIS, EXIM Bank, and College Libraries.
4. Arrangement of theme-based Book Exhibition at KRC &DLISC

The MLISC programme consist of Theory Papers and Practical Components. The examination pattern of Theory paper is 60 : 40.  The  examination is conducted for 60 Marks and internal examination is conducted for 40 Marks. The internal examination is conducted on different aspects

Pattern of Examination

1. Theory Examination (60: 40)

1. Semester End Exam – 60 marks

• There shall be 6 questions, out of which one will be short note question. Each question carries 15 marks.

• Candidate will attempt any 4 questions

2. Internal Assessment – 40 marks

1. Attendance & Participation in Class 10 marks
2. One Classroom Test             10 marks
3. Two Classroom Assignments 20 marks

(Field Visit Report, Book Review, Preparation of Bibliography on a given topic,Seminar, Essay Writing)

1. Practical Examination

Practical examination will be conducted in each semester at the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mumbai, Kalina Campus. External examiners are appointed from the panel of examiners appointed by the Ad hoc BOS of LIS and approved by the University.

Sem IV of MLISC Programme is enriched with Dissertation component Assessment of the written dissertation and viva voce is held at Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mumbai, Kalina Campus, conducted by the panel of external and internal examiners appointed by the
