Career Training and Placement Cell (UoM-CTPC)

Purpose

University of Mumbai’s Career Training and Placement Cell (CTPC) is established under the Honourable Vice Chancellor’s initiative. It aims at facilitating quality placements, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities for students. Its primary goal is to prepare students to be industry-ready by bridging the gap between academia and recruiters.

Objectives

  1. Strengthening Academia-Industry Connection: Bridge the gap between academia and recruiters to meet industry, academia, and research outcomes.
  2. Providing Placement Assistance: Provide placement assistance, employment counselling, and support for self/social entrepreneurship.
  3. Offering Logistic Support: Offer university infrastructure to visiting companies for organizing placement activities.
  4. Providing Career Guidance: Enable students to choose from various career options by acting as an interface between industry and students.

Projected Activities

  1. Job and Entrepreneurship Information: Gather and analyse information on job avenues and entrepreneurship opportunities.
  2. Placement Policies: Formulate campus placement policies and procedures.
  3. Seminars and Workshops: Organize seminars and workshops to inform students about professional trends, job profiles, leadership roles, and market needs, and to impart soft skills training.
  4. Personality Development: Conduct personality development lectures by experts from academia and the corporate sector.
  5. Campus Placement: Facilitate campus placements across university departments and host various companies for recruitment processes.
  6. Job and Skill Fairs: Organize job and skill fairs, pool campus drives, and off-campus drives.
  7. Entrepreneurial Programs: Coordinate with the University’s Incubation Centre to organize entrepreneurial capacity-building programs.
  8. Internship and Apprenticeship: Coordinate industry internships and apprenticeship training opportunities.
  9. Employment for Persons with Disabilities: Make special efforts to provide employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
  10. Mock Interviews: Organize mock interviews to help students with body language, professional etiquette, and confidence for final interviews.
  11. Alumni Network: Maintain constant contact with alumni through the University of Mumbai Alumni Association.
  12. Student Database: Create and maintain a database of students seeking placement opportunities.

Director

Dr. Sachin Ramesh Labade, Associate Professor (CAS) at the University of Mumbai’s Department of English, has been appointed as the Honorary Director of the CTPC, starting from April 2024. In addition to this role, he also acts as the nodal officer for the University’s Internship Cell, which is an integral part of the CTPC.


Deputy Director
Dr. Mrs. Srivaramangai R, Assistant Professor (CAS) and Head at the University of Mumbai’s Department of Information technology, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the CTPC, starting from June 2024. She is also the Offg. Director of Centre for Excellence in Theoretical and Computational Sciences(CETACS). Additionally, she serves as the nodal officer of NIRF and QS Ranking for University of Mumbai.

Deputy Director
Dr. Wilbur Gonsalves, Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Psychology, University of Mumbai, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the CTPC, starting from June 2024. He was a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellowship and UGC Junior Research Fellowship during his Ph.D. programme.Currently he is a visiting Associate at the prestigious Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS). He is on the editorial board of their peer-reviewed journal “Bombay Psychologist”.as well as on the board of consulting editors of Sambashan (A bilingual interdisciplinary Journal of the University of Mumbai).

Dr. Kavita Pandey, a gold medalist from the University of Mumbai, has 17 years of experience as a Placement Officer at ADMIFMS, specializing in research, training, and industry-institute collaboration. She holds three postgraduate degrees (History, Marketing Management, Psychology), MH-SET (Management), and a Ph.D. in disability studies. Dr. Pandey has received several awards for her work in placements, student development, and research. She is passionate about community engagement, impact-based research, and storytelling.

Five students from the University Department of English are given offer letters by the IMS (Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai) after the completion of the recruitment procedure. Four students accepted the offer letters.
