- Indian Science Congress
The University of Mumbai hosted the 102nd Indian Science Congress (2014), which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was an international event as well with Nobel Laureates and eminent scientists in all fields from abroad were invited to give plenary talks. Professor Manjul Bhargava (Fields medal 2014), Professor Subhash Khot (Nevanlinna Prize 2014) were amongst the plenary speakers.

The University of Mumbai has applied for and successfully completed maximum number of GIAN programmes within the State of Maharashtra.

- Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Facility Keypoints
• Accelerator Mass Spectrometry facility with 1 MV linear accelerator with
special emphasis on carbon dating installed.
• Collaborative project of Department of Physics with BARC and TIFR.
• A BRNS funded project with an outlay of 10 crores.
• A structure to house the accelerator is constructed (in place of old workshop of Physics Department) and the machine has been acquired and installed. It is running 24×7.
• It is the first of its kind facility to be established in an Indian University
• It is expected to emerge as a major user facility for Indian scientists in fields of archaeology, geosciences, biosciences etc.

The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute’s centre was established in 2005-06 as the University of Mumbai became a member of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, a
binational organization that promotes understanding between India and Canada through academic activities and exchanges.

- German Intellectual Tradition
The German Intellectual Tradition was a series of lectures initiated by Prof. Dr. Kanchana Mahadevan, Former Head, Department of Philosophy, University of Mumbai in collaboration with the Goethe Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan, Mumbai in 2015. A series of lectures on the German philosophers from Kant to Habermas were held by internationally renowned philosophers and theorists like Aijaz Ahmed, Surendra Munshi, Jatin Wagle, etc. In 2018 the Department of German, University of Mumbai collaborated on the project.

Departments which have celebrated Centenaries
- Department of German
The study of German language and literature began way back in 1913 and the University of Mumbai is the oldest centre in India to commence the teaching of B.A. and M.A. in German in 1913. In 2014 the Department of German celebrated 100 years of teaching of German in Mumbai, by hosting various events throughout the year, one of them being the international conference on Comparative Aesthetics in collaboration with the international Association of Intercultural German Studies also known as Gesellschaft für interkulturelle Germanistik (GiG) in December 2014.
- Department of Mathematics
The founding Head of the University Department of Mathematics, Professor S.S. Shrikhande completed 100 years on October 19, 2017. The Centenary year was celebrated by organizing an International Conference in Mathematics where eminent mathematicians from abroad and distinguished alumni’s were invited to give talks. The afternoon sessions were open to all, and UG teachers and students were encouraged to attend these sessions on broad topics of mathematics.
- Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology, University of Mumbai, has the distinction of being the oldest centre of teaching and research in Sociology and Anthropology in India. In addition, it is the oldest Department in the University of Mumbai. The Department was set up in 1919 with an eminent British sociologist and town planner Sir Patrick Geddes as the first Professor and Head. Over the decades the department has made pioneering and significant contributions to teaching and research in Sociology in South Asia.
